Since November 2012, Swisscom customers have been able to surf at high speed on Switzerland's first 4G/LTE network. Since then, Swisscom has accelerated the expansion. More than one in three Swiss people currently enjoy 4G/LTE reception. "Over 300,000 customers already use our high-speed 4G/LTE network. They benefit from significantly higher capacity, greater speed and shorter reaction times", says Heinz Herren, Head of Network & IT at Swisscom.

Last November, Swisscom became the first and to date only Swiss provider to launch the new generation of mobile communications, 4G/LTE, in 26 towns and municipalities. In just four months, Swisscom has now added another 120 locations and now covers 35 per cent of the population in urban and rural areas. Around 300,000 Swisscom customers already use a 4G/LTE-compatible smartphone and benefit directly from the higher capacity, greater speed and shorter reaction times of the new network. Swisscom wants to enable over 70 per cent of the Swiss population to have access to mobile surfing on the 4G/LTE network by the end of 2013. As part of the annual budget, Swisscom plans to invest a total of around CHF 1.5 billion in the mobile network up to 2017.

Wide selection of 4G/LTE smartphones
Swisscom's range of 4G/LTE-compatible smartphones has grown rapidly since the launch of the new mobile network. Recent additions are the Blackberry Z10, HTC One, iPhone 5, Nokia Lumia 820, Sony Xperia Z, the iPad mini and the iPad with Retina Display. Advance orders can now be placed for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and customers can expect to receive their new phone in late April. Almost half of smartphone customers now choose a 4G/LTE-capable device, giving them even faster mobile Internet access while on the move, with speeds of up to 100 mbps on NATEL infinity XL.
